Why We Swim for Charlie
Dr. Charles “Charlie” van der Horst was a physician, public health advocate, and lifelong competitive swimmer who spent his career caring for people who needed it most, and who loved children.
After Charlie died during a marathon swim in 2019, his friends and fellow swimmers founded Swim for Charlie in his name so that every child can be safer in and around the water.
Your gift at work: More than 5,200 second graders from 28 schools have learned life-saving water safety skills through our program.
